THE ART OF IKEBANA
Ikebana is one of the traditional art forms in Japan. It dates back over 600 years. Ikebana takes the art of arranging flowers to a higher level. The word ikebana translated means “Living Flowers” or “Making Flowers Come Alive”. José Juico is a gifted practitioner of an ancient Japanese art form of floral arrangement known as Ikebana. The English translation of Ikebana is “making flowers come alive” which is exactly what José does in artistic arrangements. Ikebana is accomplished by learning and practicing a set of principles that determine stem placement, scale, and choice of container. The result is a stunning and distinct style of floral arrangement. Taking his art to the highest level, José designs hand and crafts his own containers and grows much of his own plant material. His work has been shown at The Philadelphia Flower Show, and Longwood Gardens among others. In addition José acts as the Vice President of the Ohara School of Ikebana of the Delaware Valley and as the Exhibition Chairman of the Philadelphia Chapter of Ikebana International.
